Men’s Walking Football – New Members needed!

How do you fancy getting into football? How many times have you promised yourself that you would do more exercise but there is always some excuse! Walking Football could be what you are looking for. It’s a bit like 5 a side football but without the running. Games are played at a slower pace to reduce the threat of pain, discomfort and injury, with players briskly walking through matches.
We meet on Tuesdays at 2pm in the Market Hall, Whitchurch Civic Centre. Registration with the Beechtree is compulsory.

Why?

In the UK around 22% of men die before the age of 65, compared to 13% of women. Although physically active men have a 20 – 30% reduced risk of premature death and 50% less chronic disease, by the age of 55-64 only 32% of men say they take the recommended half hour of exercise five times a week.

Action!

In the context of an ageing society, rising levels of obesity and the growing incidence of late onset diabetes, it is thought Walking Football has the potential to make a significant impact by building strength, improving balance, maintaining health, improving sleep and managing stress.  It’s a great way to start exercising again, to have a kick about, to make friends, to have fun.
