New goal posts for Walking Football group

 Brilliant News!!!

I am very excited to announce that we now have proper football goal posts at our Walking Football group on Tuesdays at 2pm, Civic Centre, thanks to the amazingly kind people at “the Soccer Store” based in Crewe!

For over a year now we have been struggling using stacks of chairs as goal posts which has not been ideal.  We couldn’t afford to buy any ourselves and provision of daytime leisure activities in Whitchurch is poor.  There are no arguments now over whether it hit an imaginary cross bar – we actually have a cross bar!  Thanks to “the Soccer Store” the existing players – and hopefully new ones – can continue to benefit physically and socially from the sessions. So far we have seen some serious weight loss, improvements in strength and energy, and a boost in confidence that led to an apprenticeship ending in a full time job! Our new football nets will make the activity more attractive to new players and allow the life enriching process to continue. In a nutshell – it makes you feel good!

On behalf of all the players I’d like to say a huge Thank You to the Soccer Store

Men’s Walking Football – New Members needed!

Warming up
Warming up

How do you fancy getting into football? How many times have you promised yourself that you would do more exercise but there is always some excuse! Walking Football could be what you are looking for. It’s a bit like 5 a side football but without the running. Games are played at a slower pace to reduce the threat of pain, discomfort and injury, with players briskly walking through matches.
We meet on Tuesdays at 2pm in the Market Hall, Whitchurch Civic Centre. Registration with the Beechtree is compulsory.

Why?

In the UK around 22% of men die before the age of 65, compared to 13% of women. Although physically active men have a 20 – 30% reduced risk of premature death and 50% less chronic disease, by the age of 55-64 only 32% of men say they take the recommended half hour of exercise five times a week.

Action!

In the context of an ageing society, rising levels of obesity and the growing incidence of late onset diabetes, it is thought Walking Football has the potential to make a significant impact by building strength, improving balance, maintaining health, improving sleep and managing stress.  It’s a great way to start exercising again, to have a kick about, to make friends, to have fun.
